A national or international awareness day is a date usually set by a major organisation or government to commemorate a medical research or ethical cause of importance on a national or international level.

WHY WOPD?

The demands of Orthotics & Prosthetics are rising day by day, specially in those areas which are affected by the disasters & war .The need for awareness and recognition is increasing as well.

After all, there's a day, week, or month honoring just about everything and everybody--even potato chips have a day set aside (March 14). Though individual organizations have held prosthetic and orthotic awareness events, there currently is no nationally or internationally recognized day of recognition.

The profession of Prosthetists and Orthotists have a long history of helping people but it still require the attention of the world. World Orthotics Prosthetics Day (WOPD) is an idea inititated in year 2008 on www.OPPAK.com as a poll for the promotion and awareness about the Orthotics Prosthetics all over the world. This was internationally shared with the O&P Community on OANDP-L and The O&P Edge. But it is still an idea and no more actions have been taken in this regard.
