PIPOS Convocation 1991-2011 PDF Print E-mail

It is to inform all PIPOS Graduates that 1st convocation of PIPOS will be held this year on 6th April 2012. A full-Scale rehearsal will be held a day earlier as per usual practice. You must reach well in advance to PIPOS and not later than 23rd March 2012 10:00 am.Please take note of the following issues & necessary requirements in this event:
a. All participants are requested to fill the enclosed registration form and return it to PIPOS along with attested copies of their Degrees latest by 20th January 2012.
b. Copies of receipts must be provided at the time of registration. Only candidate who have fulfilled the entire necessary requirement by due dates will be called for a final dress rehearsal. Final date and time will be communicated in due course.
c. Attendance to the rehearsal is compulsory failing which participation in the convocation ceremony may be denied.
d. Registration form can also be downloaded from www.facebook.com/ piposconvocation2012 or can be collected from the admission office PIPOS.
e. Registration fee and accommodation charges (in case) may be deposited via bank in the name of PIPOS, receipts of which must be attached with Registration form.

 
DUHS gives artificial limbs to 2,500 needy PDF Print E-mail

KARACHI - Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has provided artificial limbs to more than 2,500 limbless people free of cost.

Dow University Artificial Limb (DUAL) Centre is well equipped with all the required machines and material so as to fabricate light weight artificial limbs, almost free of cost to needy patients. Media can play an effective role in increasing awareness about health issues among the masses.

Speaking at a certificate distribution ceremony of First Introductory Short Course for Health Journalists, held on Saturday at Arag Auditorium of Dow Medical College, DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan pointed out that proper understanding of issues by media personal is very important. He announced that DUHS would give computer and technical training to the children of health journalists which would help them in building their future career. Introductory Short Course for Health Journalists is a capacity-building course from a series of short courses for health journalists being offered by DUHS in collaboration with Association of Health Journalists Pakistan (AHJP).

ISLAMABAD: NUST team has been awarded with first prize of Rs 500,000 for brain-controlled artificial limb at award-giving ceremony of Prime Minister’s Entrepreneurial Challenge programme DISCOVER, at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani awarded the team.The event was also attended by Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali and Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr. Javaid Laghari

Need for artificial limbs more than doubles in Pakistan PDF Print E-mail

PESHAWAR – The number of Pakistanis needing artificial limbs has more than doubled compared to last year, according to Dr. Bakht Sarwar, head of the Pakistan Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences. Terrorism in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas is the main reason, he told Ashfaq Yusufzai of Central Asia Online.

“In 2011, we have provided 318 persons artificial limbs while more than 500 are on the waiting list,” he said. In 2010, 161 artificial limbs were manufactured and provided to victims who lost limbs in the war on terror.

Women and children comprise the majority of the patients, Sarwar said, adding IEDs pose a serious threat to the public.

KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), under its community healthcare services, has launched a Zakat and donation project to continue with its free treatment facilities for needy patients. There are thousands of patients presently supported by the university at its different medical centres, said Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor of DUHS, while addressing a meeting to launch the project. He said free of cost artificial limbs and orthosis were also being provided to physically disabled patients. The meeting was largely attended by students and faculty members of the university.The number of patients, who are genuinely needy, is increasing with every passing day and has compelled the university to seek support and cooperation of well to do people from different sections of the society, he said.
